Is Insurance Accepted?

Most rehab centers do accept insurance, although some programs will only accept specific options.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA)

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act in March of 2010. “This health care law” changed the way that addiction and mental illness was viewed in the health community. “Prevention, early intervention, and treatment of mental and/or substance use disorders” is now considered an essential health benefit, which means any insurance programs sold through the Healthcare Marketplace must cover these issues. It also means that many more rehab programs and additional treatment options are available to those who need care through their insurance.

Public vs. Private vs. Group Insurance

In most cases, public insurance programs, especially those sold through the Healthcare Marketplace, will be accepted by certain rehab centers. Many private and group programs also offer certain options for addiction treatment and prevention. Depending on any specific plan, most individuals will likely have multiple options for partially or fully covered care, which gives more people access to the treatment they need (Office of National Drug Control Policy).

How Much of My Treatment Will My Insurance Plan Cover?

Usually, insurance plans will cover at least some, if not all, of a person’s treatment costs for addiction rehab. This allows many individuals who otherwise wouldn’t be able to seek care for their addictions to be able to do so. However, it is important to be aware of when your insurance plan will not cover the entirety of your costs.

If you do choose a rehab center or treatment program where your plan is only covering part of the cost, you can finance the rest of your treatment expenses. This allows you to pay a certain amount up front and then to make payments over time, ensuring you do not have to pay more than you can at any one time.

How Do I Find a Rehab Program that Will Take My Insurance?

You will want to make sure the rehab program you choose will accept your insurance before committing to stay or receive treatment there. Every rehab center does not accept every insurance plan, so keep this in mind when choosing the program that is best for your needs. Your Insurance Plan Can Help You Afford Treatment

If you currently have an insurance plan, it is important to determine what options you have through the program for addiction recovery. This can make your entire treatment process much easier and much less expensive.
